Dublin city business chiefs have revealed plans to attract half a million visitors to the capital over the summer months.
Highlights of the Summer In Dublin programme include a Viking festival at Wood Quay, the street performance world championships in Merrion Square, lunchtime outdoor concerts and the reopening of the Natural History Museum.
Tom Coffey, of Dublin City Business Association, said more people are holidaying at home this year due to the uncertainty created by the Icelandic volcano and various airline disputes.
"Many are expected to visit the capital as their 'staycation' destination of choice," said Mr Coffey.
"Only last week Dublin was ranked as a better city to live in than Paris or London, according to the Mercer Worldwide Quality of Life Survey.
"Dublin City Centre combines a unique ambience with beautiful architecture, amusing characters and world class amenities in a truly original way."
Dublin City Council expects some 500,000 people to attend events such as a national play day and kings of concrete.
"We are anticipating a fine summer in Dublin," added Michael Sands, communications manager.
"Combining this with the wonderful programme of events on offer, we are anticipating that increased numbers of people will come into Dublin City and enjoy the wide variety of activities."

Re: Dublin unveils visitor boost plan
Thats all well and good but is there anything to keep the people there once the festivals are over? There was only 4 mentioned there and some of them are one day festivals. What are people meant to do after that?

Cool! Ah theres a few things to do. mostly to do with drinkin. Just avoid Copper Face Jacks and Flannerys. Thats where all the country folk go to get sick on each other and pass out. No locals go there though. Its usually full of guards and nurses!!
Re: Dublin unveils visitor boost plan
Haha they are the only two places i've heard of!! No wonder my nurse friend Maria keeps recommending Coppers!!

Re: Dublin unveils visitor boost plan
Havent heard back from Tallaght yet. suspect i wont for a while either. I have to get me transcripts sent up from Carlow to my house, then get me parents to send them on to Tallaght. Then Tallaght have to look at them and accept me in based on the number of credits i have. The course need about 190 but i have like 240 or something.
Then, I have to hear back from the grant people. should have applied for it already but i was unsure whether or not i need to put me parents address on it or go for a different address. i im living at home, i'm "dependant" so will be means tested against me parents income. so i need to get me own place, with all my zero money, and then i'll qualify for the grant!
I rang them and said "im in australia and wont be back until near the closing date for grant applications so i'll have to put me parents address on it, but im independant the last 10 years so what should i put?". they said they didnt know and they'd ring me back. that was friday. gonna ring them again tonight.

Re: Dublin unveils visitor boost plan
Maybe put a temporary address?? You might only get a half grant if your living at home! Rent is cheap during the summer so maybe you could rent someplace just to have an address?? I didn't qualify for the grant so annoying coz I don't have any money!!
Re: Dublin unveils visitor boost plan
By the way order your transcripts well in advance, it takes 2 weeks in UCC for them to post them out to you!!
